PDFmail. The Paperless Office

Integrate PDF and email reporting capabilities into your applications. Print to web sites. Archive reports as PDF files. Integrate to fax and internet gateways. Archive to a central logging email address.

PDFmail provides a universal solution to business application reporting and forms requirements. It is a multi-platform solution - which makes it attractive for developers of both Windows and Linux/Unix software alike - and covers you if you decide to change platforms or programming languages in future. PDFmail is language-independent because it is not linked in to the application - it is supplied as separate program which is invoked at reporting time. It is also designed to fit in easily into existing systems - it can be used immediately send out standard reports as PDF files - and later its more advanced capabilities can be used to produce business forms. In many cases, a simple configuration file change to add PDFmail as an extra printer is sufficient to enable it. Although PDFmail is designed to be as flexible as possible, we can also tailor it for particular requirements. For more information and pricing on PDFmail please contact us.

What platforms does it run on ? What changes do I have to make to my programs ?

For customised reports and business forms like invoices, statements etc you have the choice of using the PDFmail Forms Designer to design forms or directly embedding escape sequences in your applications code.

Then at runtime you need to call PDFmail to produce the form - this will be produced as a PDF file like this example or this two-page example, and emailed, or printed directly to a laser printer, or to a fax, web or other gateway depending on fields you supply when calling PDFmail or using values from fields in the reports themselves or using environment variables.

You have the same options for standard 132 column 66 line reports; these may be printed 'as is' to produce landscape prints or published as landscape PDF files. But, in addition, escape sequences can be embedded to enhance the look of the reports. These can be as simple as bolding the title of the reports (like this) so that they appear as the subject line of emails, through to more advanced font changes and use of boxes.

The report can either be 'piped' to PDFmail or passed as a text file on disk. Sending via email requires an SMTP mail server on the network or internet connection. Printing to PCL-compatible laser printers is directly supported. Printing to other printers is supported via pdf conversion utilities.
